The Yom Kippur War: Syrian Front Battle Sites
On October 6, 1973, on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in Judaism, Egyptians and Syrians coordinated a surprise attack on the State of Israel, ostensibly to retake the Sinai Peninsula and the Golan Heights back after Israel had captured them in the Six Day War. Syria’s initial attack on the Golan made threatening gains into Israeli-held territory, but within three days, Israeli forces had pushed the Syrians back to the pre-war ceasefire lines, securing the Golan Heights as an Israeli possession to the current day. Visit sites of famed tank battles where history was made and feel the relief when the lost ground was retaken and the Golan Heights preserved.
